Winemaker's Notes:

Year after year, this is one of the Foppiano's best wines. Old vines and perfect growing conditions have made this small production one of their best kept secrets.

This is the essence of California Petite Sirah! The Foppiano Petite is reliably consistent vintage after vintage. I have tasted the 2002 vintage on numerous occasions with and w/o food. The nose more than hints of floral tones. I have always noticed a violet type of nose with hints of dried fruit. The color is dark and dense purple with good clarity. This wine has an interesting flavor profile that evolves on the palate and in the glass with time. At first I have noticed the jammy fruit with noticable, but well-rounded tannins. With time in the glass the tannins smooth out even more and allow the flavors to linger with a wonderfully long finish and slight hints of that same floral fragrance. For my dollar this is as good as it gets in the under $50 category (I believe I paid $22/bottle).
