Solid intensity of classic dark cherry, prune, tobacco, leather, moist earth, damp tea leaves and smoky oak and a touch of camphor. Very smooth entry, a touch soft in acidity which is subsumed in the slightly chewy, dark fruits but pops on the mid-palate. The tannins are crisp and subtle offering good support until they break through the fruit on the backend with bright sour red berry fruit and a touch of cocoa. Dark and earthy with a touch of cedar cigar box and nice silica rich earth notes on the long, very savory, cocoa tinged slightly hot finish with a lovely bitter almond finale. This is fairly resolved and will benefit from another year or 3 in the cellar but will not make old bones. Drink 2010-2018 93pts
Even with substantial air the nose on this starts out as closed and so tight with just some clay and necco wafer tones. With time this really blossoms adding mint, musk, spice, floral tones and cherry fruit to the intense bouquet. In the mouth this is big, rich and packed with youthful fruit that is bright and remarkably transparent for such a deep wine. The fruity has great fresh spice tones and wonderful tense structure that keeps it superbly vibrant in the mouth with a layered quality that allows the fruit to meld seamlessly with the earth and spice notes. The finish is cleansing with that perfectly ripe fruit and wonderful notes of small red berries and dried flowers. An exceptional wine and very likely the wine of the vintage. 96pts
A bold matriarch with expensive hair and dark lipstick, some may get a rise out of her. Most of the time I'm not in the mood for her shenanigans and mind games, but right now I'm getting a second glass.
A very mature wine. Warm, smooth and silky with well crafted tannins, subtle tar and oak, and just the right amount of acidity. Black cherries, tobacco, a tiny bit of medicine on the finish. Wonderful sun baked fruit on this one -- I can imagine that Tuscan warmth as I drink it, and I really want to have a bit of pasta right now.
Delicate wolley and gamey nose which I immediately associate with high priced wines. Very delicate flavor but extremely well balanced and delicious. I love it but I wouldn't want to settle down with it.
Great stucture licorice, saddle leather, high acidity. Needs more time but very good.
Good acidity and earth on the nose. Leather and cherries, with a truffle finish. Still tart from the tannins which will open up some more, but the fruit is aging well.
[Zuppa] Not decanted, drank over 2 hours. Big earthy nose, leather, truffle; started a little closed on the palate dominated by saddle leather. Opened up w/ subtle rose pedal, cherries, and dark chocolate. Has much life ahead, decant for >2 if drinking now. Have one more will hold.
Nice, barnyard, red cherry and heavy tannin, oak and leather. Delicious, big round fruit, cherry and a long, complex, cherry and medicine finish.
