Fontanafredda Barolo Serralunga d'Alba 2013

Member Review by vin0vin0:

Not bad but not great Barolo. Somewhat light in color and flavor. There's a bit of cranberry on the nose with some cranberry, red and black cherry on the palate. The acidity is a bit muted and the finish a tad short.

The nose was short and a bit stifled. The fruit was shallow in the front and the tannins were intense. It probably could have used a few more years aging and a good food pairing.

Enjoyed with dinner vs. tasting - outstanding when paired with mushrooms in roasted garlic puree with red mother sauce and Veal San Georgio. A fruit-forward, floral gem with a long finish and extremely food-friendly.

Still young, comes on restrained and then there's an explosion of flavor in the mid-palate and aftertaste. I wish I could have tasted more.

Wine Spectator ReviewLoads of tar and blackberry character on the nose. Very floral. Full-bodied, with a velvety mouthfeel and a long, fruity finish. Round and pretty. Best after 2007.Wine Tasting NotesMany of the famous great Barolo crus come from Serralunga: names which are well-known by wine-lovers and connoisseurs alike; Barolos packed with alcohol, with great structures, full-bodied and robust enough to withstand the passing of time. Garnet-red with ruby highlights that take on a slightly orange tone over time, it has a clear-cut, intense nose with overtones of vanilla, spices, withered roses and underbrush; its taste is dry, but soft, full-bodied, velvety and well-balanced, and is very long-lasting.
