Folie á Deux Zinfandel 2005

Winemaker's Notes:

VINEYARD INFORMATION97% of the 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of three different cabernet vineyards within the St. Helena appellation and as such, it is a showcase of that appellation as well as the varietal. Each one of the three vineyards is of a different age, has a separate pruning technique, and utilizes an unique watering cycle, adding layers of complexity to the wine when blended. In a long growing season such as 2005, quality was high across all of St. Helena vineyard sources because the grapes were given extended hang time to develop complex phenolicsin the grape skins.WINEMAKINGThe wine was crafted from six individual barrel lots. After a 14 day maceration, the wine was aged 22 months in almost all French oak (94%) the majority (70%) of which was over one year old. Each lot was fermented and aged separately prior to blending allowing the unique nuances of each to maintain their individuality. TASTING & CHEF NOTESThe 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet is a powerful wine with good structure and balance. Chocolate mingles with layers of blackberry and black cherry on the palate while the well-integrated tannins provide a nice finish. Consider pairing this impressive Cabernet with a pan-seared rib-eye steak au poivre or braised lamb shank with wild mushroom risotto.WINE INFORMATION Composition: 97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot Alcohol: 14.5% T.A.: .58g/100ml pH: 3.67 Cases: 8,000 Release Date: June 2007

Very chocolaty right from the bottle with a baked fruit/baked apple note and plenty of sweet spice notes. Lots of bright, sour freshly crushed red fruits quickly starts creeping in and is joined by notes of juniper, white pepper, mineral and iron, . Very soft with good intensity to the mocha tinged sweet cherry fruit. Nice mouthfeel, soft tannins, well integrated acidity. Juicy and a touch simple but with very attractive red cherry, slight cherry pie filling fruits. Soft on the back end with more chocolate shavings/vanilla and a moderately long finish 90pts

Spicy peppery nose, opens with surprisingly high acidity then moves swiftly into strong tannins. Coffee and licorice dominate with some black fruits then licorice / anise on the finish. Nice

Usually I am a big fan of Zins AND anything from Folie à Deux, however this one in particular just didn't do much for me. The fruit was close to overbearing and just made the rest of the wine seem off balanced. The aromas were beautiful and fresh, a preview to the frutiness. This is definitely a great Zin for a lot of people, just not me.

Funky vegetation & vanilla notes over berry aromas. Flavors of dark berry, cedar, and earth. Very smooth.

A very pleasant, fruit forward, approachable wine. Lots of ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit on the palate. Mild tannins, subtle oak influence, clean finish with lingering notes of raspberry. In short, a great everyday wine.

Upon first taste it is profoundly clear why after nearly a century and a half, Zinfandel vineyards are still being planted throughout Amador County. This hand crafted Zin showcases rich, ripe blackber

Wine Tasting NotesHere is a fully resolved, old-fashioned Zinfandel that clearly illustrates why Italian farmers first planted this variety back in the mid-1800's throughout Amador County. On one hand it is ripe and juicy. On the other hand, it is rustic and country. The nose is dripping with cherries, vanilla, cinnamon and sage. The palate is soft and generous. All in all, this is everything you'd expect from an Amador County Zinfandel.
