Foley Estates Syrah Santa Rita Hills Sta. Rita Hills Rancho Santa Rosa 2006

Member Review by EMark:

Beautiful dark purple in the glass. Woody aromas with some pruney thing. Very pleasant on the tip of the tongue--fruit flavors, blackberry. The wine flows very nicely over the palate. A touch of tannin, but nothing to be concerned about. A very firm wine, but very mellow on the back of the palate. US$30.00 at the winery in 2009.

A historic parcel located in the Sta. (Santa) Rita Hills region of the Santa Ynez Valley, Rancho Santa Rosa was formerly a thoroughbred horse ranch. In 1998, the 460-acre property was purchased and planted to 230 acres of vineyard. Devoted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, the vineyard has been subdivided into 59 micro-blocks with each being farmed, harvested and vinified separately. The handsome stables have been refurbished to house the winery, with tremendous detail going into the planning of a modern facility, while honoring age-old winemaking tradition. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

6:30 PM Opened bottle and sipped. Medium bodied. Somewhat dull. Won't stop me from drinking it. 8:55 PM Much, much more interesting now that it has sat open for a bit. Very dark color, tart fruit (blueberries?), a bit of chocolate.
