Editorial Reviews for Foley Estates Pinot Noir
Very floral at first with a light, whispery character that gains a soft, lightly vanilla and tamarind-scented edge to the soft strawberry fruit. There are backing notes of mocha, oaken spice that gain intensity but don’t cover the fruit. Silken on the palate with stealthy tannins and wonderfully supportive acids that keep the slight herb and cocoa toned cherry and strawberry fruit fresh and lively across the palate. Really very fruity on the backend yet with a refreshing slight green edge that yields to some more oak spice and some obvious, yet integrated wood tannins. This should benefit from another year or two in bottle but is already delicious and very well balanced with impressive length to the finish. 92pts

nose: interesting phenols immediately coming through... a little heat and then yielding to allow a good amount of dark fruit through. Black Cherries, Plums and a bit of pepper. Gorgeous texture and silky smooth mouthfeel - perfect for this style lots of wild berry flavor. nice long finish. Tannins cling to the back of the tongue and dont seem to leave for at least a minute. a great pinot and a great value!
Excellent pinot, excellent value. Strong dark fruits but an underlying earthy/smoky/vanilla(?? is that possible?) flavor. I love this wine, but they don't often pop up in NH. Probably among my favorite pinot noirs.

Nominated for Wine Enthusiast Magazine's Person of the Year Award, William Foley II produces outstanding wines on his 460 acre estate in the Santa Rita Hills AVA in Santa Barbara County. In Matt Kramers New California Wine Book he says "Of all the Santa Rita Hills wineries, Foley has a shot at leading a very sophisticated and competitive pack." He call's the estate Vineyard, Rancho Sant Rosa where this wine comes from "The real jewel...", and it's easy to see why. This is rich, deeply flavored Pinot that's beautifully balanced. The estate has 31 different blocks of Pinot that are each harvested and fermented seaprately, then blended and aged in French oak for 12 months. Limited. 91 Points - Wine Enthusiats Located in Santa Barbara County’s Santa Rita Hills AVA, Rancho Santa Rosa represents one of the most ambitious hillside endeavors in the country. The historic 460 acre ranch was once part of the original Spanish land grant of the same name. Purchased in 1998 by William P. Foley II, the property boasts a magnificent 230 acre, south-facing hillside vineyard. With elevations that range in excess of 1000 feet above sea level, the property has a variety of soil types and exposures. It’s proximity to the Pacific Ocean creates an ideal cool-climate setting for the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Summer temperatures are moderated by the continual on-shore flow, lengthening the growing season and allowing a longer, steadier ripening period. Rancho Santa Rosa Vineyard is farmed with painstaking care and attention usually associated with much smaller properties. Actually conceived as multiple micro-vineyards, it is divided into 59 unique blocks averaging less than four acres a piece. While this process of micro farming is unusual in this country, it is commonplace in the famed Cotes d Or of Burgundy.
Deep garnet in color with purple highlights, the Rancho Santa Rosa Pinot Noir has aromas of black cherry, blackberry and blueberry. There are also earth notes of mushroom, black tea and smoked meats. There is some tannin, but it is well integrated in this plump, mouth-filling wine. Drink now, or hang onto it for five to ten years, if you prefer.
