Editorial Reviews for Foley Estates Chardonnay
Leesy on the nose with a nice underlay of gently nutty oak. This offers up a touch of green herb over ripe, grilled pineapple, and vanilla cream notes. Soft and lush on entry, this is big but very well balanced giving the mid-palate a bit of an airy feel. The pineapple and vanilla tones on the nose are joined by notes of candied orange peel and a touch of marzipan that leads to a long, creamy, layered finish. The acidity is well concealed in the mouth but offers a nice cleansing note on the finale. 92pts
Rich aromas of sweet pineapple and apricot greet the nose, layered over spicy wood and tones and hints of crème brulee. This starts off opulently in the mouth with fine, vibrant acids that offer nice cut through the mid-palate giving this a decidedly racy edge. The flavors are tightly focused with rich green citrus tones and hints of raw nutmeats and soft nutmeg spices leading to a long, fine finish. This should develop very nicely over the coming years but is already quite impressive. 93pts

Opens with powerful lemon drop, lemon peel and toast aromas that turn firm and minerally in the mouth, almost hard, with a steely, gun-flint edge to the lemon custard flavors. With very high acidity, this polished Chard finishes dry and classy.
The 2005 Chardonnay Rancho Santa Rosa exhibits restrained tropical fruits intermixed with a subtle peach character. There is an attractive underpinning of tart acidity, a hint of oak, and a complex personality. It should age well for 2–4 years.
