Flying Fish Merlot 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

Aromas of ripe plums, blueberries and cherries complement the full, rich palate with hints of mocha and vanilla. Pair with grilled foods, Italian sausage and pizza.

The reds, particularly Cabernet Merlot and Shiraz have been successful in winning a number of medals and awards including a place as a finalist for the coveted Jimmy Watson Memorial Trophy in both 2006 and 2007. Our entries into the Perth Royal Wine Show brought us the 'Most Successful Exhibitor - under 300 tonne' trophy for both 2005 and 2007. We are also home to 'The Young Winemaker of the Year 2009 for Australia and New Zealand' - Ryan Aggiss. Flying Fish Cove winery is situated 25km north of the Margaret river town site, along Caves Road in the renowed Wilyabrup area. Next door to the winery is 'Wildberry Estate', the Flying Fish Cove vineyard - consisting of 25 hectares of vines planted in 1997 by several of our shareholders. In 2000 a group of 20 grape growers in the region invested in the construction of the Flying Fish Cove winery, which carried out its first vintage in 2001. In 2009 it fully processed 23,000 cases. Now here is a good wine that is reasonably priced and not too mention the first time I had it was on a place. Delta airlines on my way to Paris no less. It is a decent wine, but really needs a meal to accompany it. And if all you have is your warmed box o' airline food in front of you, well then I say drink up and enjoy.

Wow, this is a little different Merlot than I have tasted. It has a taste of cherries, but what I thought was very interesting is the hint of blueberries. It is very deep in color and very light fluffy taste on the tongue. I bought this wine because of its name and am not disappointed.
