Flowers Pnr Son Coast 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Fruit was rigorously hand sorted and fully destemmed with no crushing. Moderate cold soaks (4-5 days), warm fermentations (85-90° F), and minimal punchdowns (twice a day or less) were done this year in order to adapt to what nature gave us. Total skin contact ranged from 11-18 days with all fermentations being carefully basket pressed and put to barrel on full fermentation lees for ML. Racking was minimal with only one assemblag being done in the spring to allow the blend to "marry" in barrel for a few months before bottling. Mostly native yeast and ML with only small lots conducted using cultured burgundy isolates.

Wright Robertson of Glencoe is a family owned winery owned and operated by ourselves, Scott and Julie Wright. We operate a small vineyard and winery on the New England Tablelands of New South Wales, 18km south of Glen Innes at Glencoe at 1150m above sea level. The vineyard was established in 1999 and is certified Organic with Australian Certified Organic (ACO). Our winery is also a certified processor with ACO where we crush approximately 50 tonnes per vintage. We grow Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Shiraz with a small area of Riesling. We also buy grapes for processing from other small organic and conventional vineyards and do contract winemaking for other growers. We do all the processing and bottling on site and pride ourselves in producing a high quality product from both Certified Organic Grapes and high quality New England Grapes (Conventional). Much of our processing is based on traditional techniques such as using a basket press, barrel fermentation and maturation, traditional oak barrels for storage, minimal preservatives and traditional fining agents such as skim milk and eggs. Very sweet, cherry aromas. Very soft and fruity, with gentle supporting tannins.

Loved the body. Not too tannic. Nice and rich.

The main things that stand out about the Flowers winery is the delicacy and acidity in their wines. This Pinot exhibits fresh red raspberries on the nose, while earth and red fruit fill the palate. Delicious!

Winemaker's Notes: Fresh focused fruit aromas of cherry, raspberry, and plum are followed by hints of violet, spice, mineral, and pepper. This wine offers crisp acidity upon entry unfolding with juicy flavors of strawberry, raspberry, black fruits and leather. The 2007 vintage offers intense fruit flavors on the mid palate. Tannins are supple creating a lingering finish with cola and smokiness.
