Flowers Pinot Andreen Galepinot Noir Sonoma Red 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Fruit was rigorously hand sorted and fully destemmed with no crushing. Moderate cold soaks (4-5 days), warm fermentations (85-90° F), and minimal punchdowns (twice a day or less) were done this year in order to adapt to what nature gave us. Total skin contact ranged from 11-18 days with all fermentations being carefully basket pressed and put to barrel on full fermentation lees for ML. Racking was minimal with only one assemblage being done in the spring to allow the blend to "marry" in barrel for a few months before bottling. Mostly native yeast and ML with only small lots conducted using cultured burgundy isolates.

As nursery owners in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Walt and Joan Flowers had long dreamed of combining their love of wine with their passion for agriculture. They knew they wanted to produce their favorite varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; what they didn't know was that their path would eventually lead them across country to Northern California's rugged Sonoma Coast. After responding to a small classified ad in a national wine publication, that's exactly where they landed. In 1989, after many information-gathering trips to Napa and Sonoma, Walt and Joan purchased 321 acres, including a ridge top, high above the Pacific Ocean on the northern Sonoma Coast. With the same determination they drew on to build their successful nursery business; the Flowers proceeded with the dream of producing their favorite cool-climate varietals in a place they believed uniquely suited to growing them. Today, Flowers Winery produces 15,000 cases of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its two estate properties, Camp Meeting Ridge and Flowers Ranch, as well as select vineyards in the coolest regions of the Sonoma Coast AVA, which are farmed to Flowers' specifications by their own crews. Wine Tasting NotesFresh fruit aromas of cherry, plum, and raspberry are followed by hints of sandalwood, mineral, and leather. This wine offers crisp acidity upon entry unfolding with flavors of plum, raspberry and spice. Tannins are supple creating a long, soft finish. Enjoy now or cellar up to 3 years.

The seductive, soft 2006 Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard does not reveal the complexity of the two previous 2005s. It offers plenty of red and black fruits intermixed with earth and spice. The main things that stand out about the Flowers winery is the delicacy and acidity in their wines. This Pinot exhibits fresh red raspberries on the nose, while earth and red fruit fill the palate. Delicious!
