As nursery owners in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Walt and Joan Flowers had long dreamed of combining their love of wine with their passion for agriculture. They knew they wanted to produce their favorite varietals, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir; what they didn't know was that their path would eventually lead them across country to Northern California's rugged Sonoma Coast. After responding to a small classified ad in a national wine publication, that's exactly where they landed. In 1989, after many information-gathering trips to Napa and Sonoma, Walt and Joan purchased 321 acres, including a ridge top, high above the Pacific Ocean on the northern Sonoma Coast. With the same determination they drew on to build their successful nursery business; the Flowers proceeded with the dream of producing their favorite cool-climate varietals in a place they believed uniquely suited to growing them. Today, Flowers Winery produces 15,000 cases of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from its two estate properties, Camp Meeting Ridge and Flowers Ranch, as well as select vineyards in the coolest regions of the Sonoma Coast AVA, which are farmed to Flowers' specifications by their own crews. In addition to direct consumer sales, the wines are sold to fine restaurants and retailers in the US and overseas. Read less

Bright nose with hints of tropical fruit. Fairly subtle on the palate. Fruit flavors of banana and citrus. Citrus implies acid. So, this wine has an understandable brightness and refreshing quality. A very quick finish leaves the palate completely clean. A predictably solid wine from a solid maker.

Excellent Sonoma Coast Chardonnay. Extremely well balanced with lemon, a touch of butterscotch, vibrant acidity and a fairly long finish.

Light straw color in the glass. Caramel/buttery bouquet. Very nice on the palate.Caramel/butter thing is not as noticeable. Medium-bodied. Some fruit things--tart apple, maybe some lemon on the side of the tongue. Very pleasant diminuendo on the finish. US$34.89 at the Wine Club in Santa Ana

Crisp, but still buttery baked apple aromas. Creamy and steely at the same time, there's a lot going on in this wine, fresh acidity gives way to a nice creamy finish.

A bit of heat on the nose, but definitely classic in Chardonnay flavors. A hint of sweetness on the attack is pleasant and welcome in this wine, with the wood showing way more on the finish.

The 2010 Chardonnay (Sonoma Coast), from a blend of six sites, is an unusual wine because of an exotic aromatic lift that recalls Sauvignon. Apricots, peaches, lemon, mint and savory herbs wrap around the textured, broad-shouldered finish. A vivid, striking wine, the 2010 is loaded with personality. This is an uncommonly delicious and compelling Sonoma Coast Chardonnay with more than enough structure to drink nicely for a number of years. The partially-blocked malo style adds freshness. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018. Rich and oaky, this has apricot, orange, vanilla and buttered toast flavors, with crisp acidity providing balance. It takes the popular Chardonnay style to an upper level in terms of the balance and the fanciness of oak. - S.H. This floral white displays aromas of ripe, zesty apple and honeysuckle. Firm and complex, with an underlying elegance and spiciness. Should gain with age. Drink now through 2018. 6,509 cases made. -JL ** SOLD OUT **

Tasting Notes:

Showing balanced depth and complexity, light straw to golden color. White peach and lime citrus aromas. A clean wine with lean acidity refreshes the palate. Stone minerals and luscious melon equally contend for attention in this mouth filling, delicious wine. Showing very well now and will continue to gain complexity for 1 - 3 years.
