Bright nose with hints of tropical fruit. Fairly subtle on the palate. Fruit flavors of banana and citrus. Citrus implies acid. So, this wine has an understandable brightness and refreshing quality. A very quick finish leaves the palate completely clean. A predictably solid wine from a solid maker.

Crisp, but still buttery baked apple aromas. Creamy and steely at the same time, there's a lot going on in this wine, fresh acidity gives way to a nice creamy finish.

A bit of heat on the nose, but definitely classic in Chardonnay flavors. A hint of sweetness on the attack is pleasant and welcome in this wine, with the wood showing way more on the finish.

A funky little bottle of wine, this chardonnay is buttery with loads of oak and a nice long finish of blue cheese.

Big and floral, almost perfume-like. Apple and apricot flavor. There are some italian herb qualities as well.

Buttery nose with more of that sweet dairy on the mouth, little bit of pineapple and apricot. The finish is slow, a little sharp. It's kind of fun.

Showing balanced depth and complexity, light straw to golden color. White peach and lime citrus aromas. A clean wine with lean acidity refreshes the palate. Stone minerals and luscious melon equally contend for attention in this mouth filling, delicious wine. Showing very well now and will continue to gain complexity for 1 - 3 years. - Winery

For this Sonoma Coast Chardonnay, Flowers winery has maintained long-term contracts with vineyards. Extremely Burgundian in style, this is cool-climate Chardonnay at its best. Flowers has produces a white that is well-balanced, with a slight creaminess, while notes of mushroom and citrus reveal themselves on the palate.

Rating: 90/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Although it is not an especially blustery or bombastic wine, the latest from Flowers displays a fair bit of complexity and depth. It marries incisive Chardonnay fruit with sweetening touches of brioche and crème caramel, and it shows the concentration and acid-firmed structure needed to encourage real hopes for age. Its youthful restraint should in no way be seen as a failing, and we anticipate very good things as it slowly evolves over the next several years.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

One of the tiniest vineyards on the Sonoma Coast (and I do mean on the coast as it has a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean), proprietors Walt and Joen Flowers received top-notch advice in their formative years from the likes of Helen Turley, John Wetlaufer, and more recently, Steve Kistler. The 2000 Chardonnay offers aromas of honeyed lemon rind, tropical fruits, and a hint of minerals in its precise, pretty, medium-bodied personality. It does not whack the taster over the head with too much oak or fruit. This subtle yet authoritative, immensely pleasurable, white will drink well for several years. This wine is an outstanding, complex, elegant, flavorful effort with multiple nuances. It is unfiltered.

Winemaker's Notes:

Fruit was rigorously hand sorted and gently whole cluster pressed. The juice was settled off heavy lees and put to barrel for fermentation. Temperatures were in the 65-72 degree range followed by stirring of light lees for 4 months in barrel. Mostly native yeast and malo-lactic (ML) fermentations with only a few lots fermented using cultured burgundy isolates.
