Flora Springs Trilogy Napa Valley 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

"This was an unctuous wine that was packed with fruit – blackberry, cassis, black cherry, plum, chocolate, mocha, cedar and vanilla. It was nuanced and had depth. I kept discovering new flavors as we sipped. It was absolutely delicious." - DallasWineChick.com

Earthen and red fruited with soft clay and notes of strawberry, red currant and cherry. Dusty, smoky and brooding on the palate with notes of floral cherry blossom and ripe raspberry, a hefty mouthfeel and vanilla bean notes, finishing with smoke and leather and dried concentrated blackberries layered on top of strong tannins.

2015 TRILOGY WINEMAKER NOTES: genesis of Trilogy, one of Napa Valley’s first Bordeaux-style red blends, dates back to 1984 when our family decided to make the best wine possible by selecting the highest quality wine lots culled from our estate vineyards in Napa Valley. Trilogy continues to be sourced exclusively from the Komes-Garvey estate vineyards, and in 2015 this iconic wine brings together Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot from St. Helena, Rutherford and Oakville. Bold, rich and highly extracted, this generous red is packed with boysenberry, black cherry, dark plum and black currant layered with milk chocolate, vanilla bean, cola and a hint of earthy cedar. Seasoned French and American oak adds just the right amount of toasty warmth, and the wine’s tannins, while rm, are round and smooth. This is a decadent wine, almost Port-like in its abundant fruit, with an umami-like unctuousness that leads to a long, satisfying finish. ON THE VINE: The 2015 vintage in Napa Valley will be remembered for high quality but low yields. The growing season began with warm temperatures in late winter and early spring resulting in an early bud break. In May, colder temperatures during bloom caused fruit set to be uneven, yielding a much smaller crop compared to earlier vintages. Winemakers and vineyard managers worked closely together as the season progressed to ensure grapes ripened uniformly. The harvest, which was in full swing by mid-August, was one of the earliest on record in Napa Valley, and most vintners completed picking by mid-October. Although the continuing drought was a concern around California, Napa Valley received 75% of its annual rainfall average in 2015 making it less worrisome for Napa vintners. Varietals: 82% Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Malbec 8% Petit Verdot Aging: 18 months, 85% French oak, 15% American oak
