Smooth, big, brighter. Not sour. Balanced. Exciting. Very light pencil lead. Smooth black fruit. Round!

Flora's favorite, our Napa Valley Merlot is a soft, supple red wine made to open right away, without waiting! The 2012 is bursting with big black cherry, juniper berry and black licorice flavors, easing into notes of cardamom, cinnamon, and gentle vanilla creme. There's an intriguing granite minerality to the wine along with a toasty, sweet oak profile in the finish. This is a wonderful stand-alone wine, but can be paired with a variety of dishes. It's forceful personality make it a good match for almost anything a Cabernet would be paired with, a favorite steak dish for instance, yet the wine's tannin structure is soft enough to pair with eggplant parmesan or your favorite chicken dish. - Winery Aging: 15 months in 95% French oak and 5% American oak barrels; mixture of new and seasoned

Flora Springs uses Merlot from the Flora Springs Estate in Rutherford and St. Helena, Crossroads Ranch in Oakville, and Cypress Ranch in Pope Valley for this Napa Valley bottling. We have found there is no single spell to making great Merlot, however the combination of vineyard site, meticulous farming methods, and specialized clone and rootstock selection allows us to craft a Merlot of great complexity and depth. Although we do feel our Merlot vineyards have a bit of magic in them, the real trick is how quickly our Napa Valley Merlot disappears. - Winery

Winemaker's Notes - Our Napa Valley Merlot has always been a favorite among seekers of soft, supple red wines ready to drink from the get go. To celebrate the born ready exuberance of our Merlot, we ve bottled it with a Stelvin closure. The 2008 vintage shows full fruit characteristics of strawberry and cherry, with a hint of raspberry and spice. Rather than make you sweat for it, we re going to make you twist for it!
