Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon combines fruit from our estate vineyards in St. Helena, Rutherford and Oakville. The hand harvested grapes were cold-soaked for several days to extract avor and color prior to fermentation. Several lots underwent extended maceration to rene and soften the tannins, and all lots were aged in a combination of French (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels for 18 months prior to blending. This is a warm and richly satisfying Cabernet that lls the mouth with avors of black cherry syrup, blackberry preserves, vanilla, brown butter, praline and a hint of anise. The wine has a loose knit structure and is built for immediate enjoyment, yet a tangible streak of pleasant acidity promises ageability for a decade or more.

Vanilla cream, blueberry preserves, chocolate cream, licorice and and some light spice on the nose. Creamy textured with a bit of a tart entry of cherry and cranberry fruit, young strawberry and a lightly green mid palate of floral notes and warm fruit with a slightly bitter, plummy finish.

The aromatic, fresh and inviting fruit aromas of ripe raspberry, cherry and red currant are a bit buttery here on the nose. Silky textured on entry, this develops a prickly acidity in the mouth as the tannins take hold, yet delivers bright black cherry and black currant fruit throughout, zesty baking spice and a juicy pie filling towards the chocolate finish.

WINEMAKER NOTES: The grapes for our 2014 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were grown in our estate vineyards located in some of Napa Valley’s most prestigious appellations, including Rutherford, Oakville and St. Helena. The hand-harvested grapes, picked at night, went through a four day ‘cold soak’ to extract rich fruit flavor prior to fermentation. At dryness, a portion of the wine was pressed of the grape skins immediately while the remaining tanks went through a period of extended maceration to create fullness and texture and to soften the tannins of the finished wine. Prior to blending, the wine aged in a mix of new and seasoned oak barrels for 22 months. This fruit-forward Cabernet offers up lovely aromas of blackberry jam, dark plum and boysenberry with hints of toasted spice and dark chocolate. In the mouth, lush fruit is layered with notes of brown baking spices, vanilla, dark espresso bean along with traces of fresh sage and lavender. This is a warm, voluptuous Napa Valley Cabernet, packed with fruit but displaying a good balance of oak, tannin and acid. Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Aging: 22 months in new and seasoned oak barrels

For this 2013 Napa Valley Cab grapes were sourced from some of Napa Valley’s most prestigious appellations, including the mid-valley regions of Rutherford and Oakville. As in previous vintages, a portion of the hand-picked grapes were pressed off early to minimize skin contact and retain the bright fruit forward character. The balance was left on the skins for an extended period of time to extract soft tannins which round out the mid-palate and create a lovely long finish. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in 75% French oak and 25% America oak. WIne Enthusiast Magazine scored this 91 points saying "This is a big, bold and grippy wine, reflective of the vintage in its classic structure and age-worthiness. Cedar, black cherry and chalky tannins give it character and seasoning. The smooth, silky texture should take on additional velvetiness in the glass. It finishes with finesse."

Winemaker Notes: The grapes for our 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon were grown in some of Napa Valley’s most prestigious appellations, including the mid-valley regions of Rutherford and Oakville. As in previous vintages, we pressed off a portion of the hand-picked grapes early to minimize skin contact and retain the bright fruit forward character of the fruit. The balance was left on the skins for an extended period of time to extract soft tannins which round out the mid-palate and create a lovely long finish. In this vintage we chose to blend in small portions of Malbec (3%) and Petite Verdot (2%) to add complexity, color and deep flavor to the finished wine. This is a bold, rich Cabernet Sauvignon with a beautiful core of dark, brambly fruit -- black cherry, black raspberry and boysenberry -- framed by spicy notes of black pepper, anise, clove, cinnamon stick and fresh sage. Lush and fullbodied, the wine shows off sweet oak notes and a vanillin-tinged finish that is smooth and silky. Varietal Blend: 95% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Malbec 2% Petite Verdot Aging: 22 months, 71% French Oak, 29% American Oak ** Only 4 in Stock **

A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec and 2% Petite Verdot, aged 22 months in 2/3 French 1/3 American oak barrels. Connoisseurs Guide gave it a 91 point score and said "Serious Cabernet at the forty-dollar price point has become a fairly rare commodity these days, but this one delivers the goods, and its combination of fruity depth, very careful proportion and a genuinely complex varietal voice is one that earns it high praise indeed. It is supple and fleshy with a fine sense of solidity, and yet it is always trim and well-balanced, and all of its many parts mesh seamlessly together. Its polish is such that it will almost certainly invite early drinking, but very good things lie ahead for this one, and the smart money says to wait for a few years." Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored it 92 points saying "Fresh and fruity, this elegant Cab is supported by smaller percentages of Malbec and Petit Verdot. Firm tannins and a low imprint of oak allow the cinnamon-dusted black cherry and cassis to speak, girded by a fine structure and peppery finish."
