Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Bright and fruity on the nose with lovely lift to the red plum, smoky oak, coriander, mineral and smoky paprika and dried pork aromas. Smells like cabernet and really good lomo. Bright and pinched on entry with lovely fruit tannins early on the palate. This is awfully young and a bit compressed today but it feels rather lively and bright, and perhaps a smidge under-ripe in the world of modern cabernet, which is fine by me. Not a powerhouse and rather transparent on the palate with some mineral edges and a nicely judged base of wood supporting the fruit along with some peppery and floral nuances. This is young, a bit simple and with slightly unripe tannins but at the same time it’s fresh and bright and pretty easy to drink. Not for everyone but lovely in its own right. 90pts

Big ripe red fruit and dark berries, excellent tannin and good structure overall.

It's hard to imagine now, but the majestic stone cellar of Flora Springs was once an abandoned "ghost" winery. Located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in the far Northwest corner of the Rutherford appellation, the Flora Springs estate is in the heart of the Napa Valley.

Chocolate-covered cherries, Herbs de Provence, fresh boysenberries, and a hint of tarragon waft from the glass to the nose. Deeply rich, provocative flavors of black licorice, rhubarb, and Asian plum round out the palate. This is a full-bodied wine yet its soft supple tannins lend to a silky smooth finish. Barbecue skewers and grilled vegetables would pair beautifully with this big, expressive wine. - Winery

A deep and rich Oakville/Rutherford Cabernet with aromas of cinnamon black currant and anise. Fruit forward. The long rich finish is accompanied by hints of tobacco cedar and vanilla. This is a big wine with a soft supple finish.

A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2008 Flora Springs Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml

Vintage: 2007 11/12/2010

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. With suggestions of coffee, dried brush and dark chocolate bringing it an identity all its own, this bottling is built like its cellarmates insofar as it is fairly firm and shows a streak of chalky young tannins, but it also shows resilient fruit reaching past its present toughness. It can be confidently held for at least four or five years.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Here is a wine of a decidedly mixed mind. It leads with fairly bright and generously fruited, cassis-like aromas that are infused with a nice note of creamy sweetness and then runs to fairly abrupt tannins that make quick work of its young and undeveloped flavors. Its astringency comes as a real challenge and may prove in the end to be its undoing, but it is sufficiently rich to earn a place in cellar and should be helped appreciably by five more years of age.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

Vintage: 2007 11/12/2010

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. A little high strung when compared to its siblings, Flora Springs basic Napa Valley bottling is a Cabernet with real limits. Its pert, cherry-like traits come without a great sense of depth, and it is increasingly defined by wiry acids as it crosses the palate. It may soften with age, but it will not gain in richness, and it trails well behind the winery's best.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
