Fleurie Clos de la Roilette 2010

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Heavy and a little spicy with rich depth, a little juniper, very floral, some orchard fruits, waxy purply forest fruits, light on entry, a bit closed, great balance, a bit chunky, a bit tight, lots of depth to the fruit, dusty tannins, great structure, loganberry. This is pretty awesome if still quite young. Great length, fruit, tight, aromatic floral and woodsy notes. 88pts

One of the greatest of cru Beaujolais. This comes from a very ripe year with more than the usual power. The wine shows great purity of fruit, and core minerality is transparent.

Tasting Notes:

Notes of leather, wood smoke, and forest floor mingling with the ripe cherry and raspberry in the nose signal that something more complex and mysterious is under foot than you will experience in all but a tiny fraction of Gamay-based wine. Generous juiciness on the palate is allied to a slightly grainy, palpable sense of extract and fine-grained tannin, while notes of toasted nut, raw beef, moss, and wet stones well up and add complexity to the wine’s long finish
