Fleurie Chateau du Chatelard Red 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Exuberantly fruity and fresh, with spicy, floral aromas and gobs of ripe cherry and berry flavors supported by firm acidity and light tannins. The spiciness and fruit complexity make it special.

The range offered by the Château de Chatelard centers on 8 ha of Fleurie vines and another 20 ha evenly spread over good vineyard plots in Moulin à Vent, Morgon, Beaujolais Blanc and Beaujolais Villages rouge and Beaujolais. Since its creation after the Fifties, the estate has developed a loyal clientele both nationally internationally. The vineyards are well situated - many were planted before 1955 - and give excellent expression of the unique Beaujolais terroirs. This pretty 18th century château has evolved over time, earning its place among the leading properties of the Beaujolais. Coming from gentle hills with a bit of rocky terrain this smoky, tobacco scented Beaujolais Villages is a step up from simple Beaujolais. This is a bit mineral toned on the palate with a bit of forced, extracted tannin that adds a touch of bitterness to the otherwise dried herbal, strawberry flavors. I bit too inky and blocky for my palate. 83pts

Dustier nose than the Chateau de Pizay Beaujolais 2007. Gamey with deep plummy fruit aromas. Tobacco flavors in the mouth with a tart tannic finish.

Medicinal nose. Think vitamins. A lighter red. Tannins? Yes, please. Hits hard but fades fast.

A very pleasant and food friendly Beaujolais.

This old-vine Beaujolais shows bright red fruit with underlying notes of clay and limestone minerality. Flavors of wild blackberries and currants abound, with a hint of earth just beneath the surface. Bright, lively acidity makes this an excellent food wine.

Exuberantly fruity and fresh, with spicy, floral aromas and gobs of ripe cherry and berry flavors supported by firm acidity and light tannins. The spiciness and fruit complexity make it special.
