An excellent Pinotage with a very smooth finish.
I was given this as a gift chosen for me by a a very good friend. It is a wonderful wine that I am truly enjoying. It is quite a surprise with a very berry start, then you get the wonderful smoky tobacco / leather flavors finishing with quite strong tannins. Unfortunately I cannot purchase it at this time as I am in Canada but I will definitely be buying more should I get to the states!!
Smooth and crisp
Very fresh and very fruity, a perfect example of what pinotage should taste like. Strong cherry aroma and taste. Mikes an ideal refreshing apperitif when slightly chilled.
Four and a half glasses
External Reviews for Fleur du Cap Pinotage Simonsberg-Stellenbosch
This wine has a deep red colour with purplish edges. On the nose it shows ample berry fruit with a sweetish fruitcake character enhanced by a spicy oak finish. Full-bodied on the palate with ripe plum flavours, this robust red is supported by a good tannic backbone, which will soften with time.
The grapes were handpicked at 25 Balling by the end of February. In the cellar the juice fermented on the skins for 4 days at 28C. It was then drawn off and fermented dry. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured in second-fill casks of French oak for 12 months. The wine was matured in the bottle for 3 months before release
