The vineyard Vinos de Arganza is owned by Victor Robla who is a very well respected and devoted winemaker in Spain. With his wife Angeles Varela, whose family has wine making roots going back to the 15th century, he make wine from fruit of old vines and utilize modern and traditional methods to create a wine with old and new world characteritics which are sold a very modest prices.
Not sure about the vintage. Lightly sour-sweet and smoky aroma. Flavor is very tannic - wood, a little chili, green vegetables. My first time trying this grape so it was a little unusual, but not too exciting.
I bought a case of this and I am happy I did. Nicely integrated and worked well with a steak and risotto.
Not aging well. Pallid body, monochromatic plum taste and slightly astringent nose.
Food Pairings for Flavium Crianza
A dark and extracted version of Mencía, this Bierzo has lots of dark and dried fruits, as well as chocolate notes. The spice and the herbs are very powerful, and the oak notes are still youthful and vibrant.
