Firesteed Rose of Pinot ' 2013

Member Review by Natalie Kronick:

Great fruity pinot out of Oregon. And a stellar deal! I paid about $18 for a bottle while vacationing in VT for my birthday. What a treat! Even got my boyfriend hooked on pinots from the PNW! Strawberries, a bit of raspberry, some rosepetal notes, good solid Oregon terroir, not overly fruity like some of the cheap wines. Nice earthy red fruit! would be great with a Cana de Cabra goat cheese and honey on a baguette. Quince paste would be a nice side to pair as well! Highly recommend!

I was expecting something called "Firesteed" to have a bit more body to it, honestly. I found this wine surprisingly thin and light, with very little evolution as one continued to take sips. It's fruity and earthy, but tart overtones from raspberry overwhelmed a lot of the potential complexity for me. I agree with a previous reviewer that the Firesteed I drank seemed more watered down from past iterations. Fine wine if you can catch it on a sale, but even then I'd probably suggest looking somewhere else if you're feeling an Oregon Pinot.

I used to enjoy this Pinot. Recently, it is so thin and unremarkable that I found myself wondering if they were watering it down...not a good sign. I won't be buying it again. There are much better Pinots out there. What happened to Firesteed?

An excellent affordable Pinot Noir...not much more to say. It has a delicate fruit flavor that is balanced with a very small oak flavor. For those that enjoy their wines fruity and not too spicey/oaky this is an excellent choice.
