Planted in 1926 on land that was once dominated by grazing cattle and the Clare Valley Railway, these Grenache vines were first intended as a way to prevent bushfires. Nowadays, these vines produce rich, full-bodied Grenache. Licorice, kirsch liqueur and baked raspberry flavors are underscored with oak, black tea and firm tannins. So while enjoying a glass of this old vine Grenache with grilled black bean veggie burgers, remember, ldquo;Only you can prevent bushfires.rdquo;
The 2002 Old Vines Grenache offers plenty of raspberry, black currant, and dusty, loamy soil characteristics with a resiny note interwoven with spice and pepper. Deep, round, full, and tasty, it should drink well for 2ndash;3 years.
