Food Pairings for Finca Sobreno Toro
Nice dark color. Mineral, herby nose. Medium bodied on the palate. Noticeable, but not difficult, tannin on the tip and edges of the tongue. Kind of "chocolatey" mid palate--some berry fruit flavor. Some iritating tartness/bitterness on the back of the throat. Bone dry, finish that lingers for several seconds. Overall, I like this wine--the first Toro I've ever tried--and look forward to having it with dinner--pasta with red sauce. US$14.99 about a month ago at Total Wines.
Very soft, almost watery, unidentifiable fruit up front. Mid-palate is overpowered by oak. Finish is pleasant, light plum with short non-intrusive tannins. Fair purchase at $13, but would not buy again.

External Reviews for Finca Sobreno Toro
This Crianza is made from 100% Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) grapes grown on some 50 hectares of vineyards (average age of 30 years) purchased specifically for the Sobreno project. "100 percent Tinta de Toro from 30-year-old vines planted at very low density. The wine is aged in American oak for 7 months. Ruby opaque color with ripe red and black plum aromas. Ripe and lush in the mouth with delicious plum fruit and generous oak on the mid-palate and finishing with nice gripping tannins." - International Wine Review (Jan. 2008), 89 pts"Finca Sobreno’s 2005 Crianza is 100% Tinta de Toro aged for 7 months in American oak. Dark crimson-colored, it offers an enticing bouquet of cedar, mineral, blackberry, and floral notes. This leads to a ripe, supple, full-flavored, spicy wine with excellent depth and balance. Although designed and priced to be consumed in its youth, it will evolve for several years. It is an outstanding value" - Wine Advocate (Issue 175, Feb 08), 90 pts
