Winemaker's Notes:

A great value under $20. This delicious blend of Syrah and Grenache displays musky cherry and dark berry aromas along with cola cracked pepper and tobacco. A fantastic chewy texture with velvety tannins and a long finish reveals a bit of spice and lasting finish. Enjoy now and over the next 5 years.

The best vineyards have historically played a large role in the Spanish wine world: see, for instance, the centuries-old valuation of the top Jerez pagos. But, starting in the mid-19th century, the development of Spain's wines took a different tack when the so-called bodegas industriales appeared on the scene: big négociant-type firms with very large productions of name-brand wines made with grapes –often, bought-in– from different places. In 2000, a group of small producers of single-estate wines from Old and New Castile got together to defend the personality which defines the wines from the best growths and to promote this culture of individuality which was being reborn in Spain. They founded Grandes Pagos de Castilla (Great Growths of Castile). This not-for-profit association became Grandes Pagos de España in 2003, reponding to the requests of many colleagues in other parts of the country who wished to make the single-growth concept better known and to seek excellence through the direct relationship between wine and its place of origin. Really opens up nicely. Funny, the first aromas in my nose were sea coast/fishy- which made for a bit of trepidation on the first taste. The wine fully jolted me when I tasted it, though. Beautiful color-great with venison.

From the East-Central part of Spain this rustic red blend is rich and dark fruited with notes of minerals and hints of oak. It will shine paired alongside meat dishes or barbeque.

Manchuela, SpainFinca Sandoval Salia is a beautiful Spanish red blend from the old wine region of Manchuela in east-central Spain, just east of La Mancha. Finca Sandoval is a relatively new venture of well-known Spanish journalist Victor La Serna, with 26 acres of vineyards in the long-forgotten Manchuela appellation. This 2007 vintage bottling is a blend of Syrah and old-vines Grenache plantings brought in from Chateau Beaucastel to clay-limestone vineyards lying at an altitude of 2520 feet. It is a true red wine gem!Finca Sandoval Salia is dense ruby-purple in color with a nose of cherry, blackberry, cassis, tobacco and spice. Bold on the palate with full body and velvety tannins, the wine offers flavors of dark berries, mocha, spice and toasted oak. It is beautifully balanced to enjoy now and over the next 5-6 years. The finish is long and full, with chewy tannins. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.Enjoy Finca Sandoval Salia with roast leg of lamb, steak, paella and aged cheeses.

(76% syrah, 13% monastrell and 11% bobal) Glass-staining purple. Suave, finely focused aromas of dark berries, Asian spices, anise and smoky minerals, with a sexy mocha undertone. Juicy and nicely balanced, with sweet blackberry and blueberry flavors, gentle spiciness and tangy minerality. The mineral quality helps to extend the sweet, sappy finish. There's an understated, precise quality to this wine that's extremely attractive.
