Finca Museum Tempranillo Blend Rioja Crianza 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Bright red. Musky red fruit aromas betray a leathery character but open to offer sweet vanilla and baking spice qualities. Light-bodied strawberry and redcurrant flavors are strongly influenced by bourbony oak with silky tannins adding grip. Finishes soft sweet and persistent. Josh Raynolds International Wine Cellar Sept. 2007

What they found was an astonishing 100+ acres of old vine Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo), ranging between 60 and 100+ years old. These low yield vines produce amazing, balanced and concentrated fruit, helped along by dramatic diurnal temperature differences that even out grape ripening. The result is a powerful, structured wine with great depth and longevity.  Read less

The wine offers a subtle, embracing aromatic range, with high notes of roasted coffee and smoke, cushioned by a background of ripe fruit and jam with mineral hints. On entering the mouth, Museum Crianza 2003 is sweet and velvety, developing a sensation of amplitude with very fine, well-integrated tannins, leaving a long, fresh finish which revisits the aromatic elegance of smoke, spices and ripe fruit..

Amid all the big, dark wines coming out of Spain, itrsquo;s sometimes nice to see a lighter-styled, old-school example such as this. The color is brick, while the nose is light, leathery and dosed with cranberry and raspberry. The feel is fresh and lively, with fresh-fruit flavors, tomato leaf and a touch of vanilla and spicy oak. Definitely a wine to drink now.

Tobacco and cedar notes frame cherry, fig and raisin flavors in this firm, polished red. The tannins are chewy, but give way to floral and berry notes on the finish. Drink now through 2011.

Those with a high coconut threshold will like this.
