Finca Luzon Luzon Verde 2012

External Review by We Speak Wine:

The 2012 Luzon Verde (verde means green) is pure Monastrell sourced from a variety of small producers, all of them certified on biological agriculture, owning a collection of vineyards from 20 to 50 years old planted at 600-800 meters altitude. It's fermented in stainless steel, with natural yeasts, it feels a tad more concentrated perhaps, but at the same time fresher with more red fruit, a polished palate, good acidity and good balance. 350,000 bottles produced. It gives a lot of pleasure for a very fair price. Drink 2013-2014. (100% monastrell): Brilliant ruby. Intense, primary aromas of dark berries and violet, with a spicy topnote. On the palate, spicy boysenberry and cherry compote flavors are complicated by subtle licorice and cracked pepper nuances. Closes on a sweet note, with very good liveliness and length.

Cherry and berry flavors are bright and juicy in this supple red, accented with light notes of herb and smoke. Light tannins lend a touch of grip. Not big, but lively. Drink now.
