Food Pairings for Finca Los Olmos Mountain Door Malbec
This is a hedonistic fruit bomb if I've ever had one. The nose is plum and dark fruit with an overtone of dark cherry and a hint of leather. This is a great balance of rich, jammy fruit up front followed by a blast of drying tannins, all leading up to a very nice experience. The lingering aftertaste does have a bit of the lavender and lilac I associate with Malbec. However, if I were to taste this blind, I fear I'd call it out as a Zinfandel. I shouldn't say fear, because I'm a fan of a good Zin. It's big and jammy, but not too hot, at just over 13% (I'm seeing more and more Malbecs up around 14, which concerns me.) I had this with green beans and Italian sausage, and I'd dare say this gives many Italian wines a run for their money with this style food. I'd recommend this with anything tomato, beef, or pork.
