Food Pairings for Finca El Portillo Bodegas Salentein Malbec
Another excellent Argentinian Malbec. Good fruit and an smooth finish but with a body that can stand up to the spicy foods we have at dinner. Something to look for to add to the cellar again.
i like the smoothness and the fruity nose, as well as the hint of spice. but to be honest the finish is a bit flat, which makes the whole experience pretty underwhelming. overall it's really so-so in my book.
Local grocery store had this as a buy one get one free special, so decided to try an Argentine Malbec. I enjoyed this wine and would buy it again, but it's not one that I would list as one of my most favorite red wines. I don't have the "nose," but my best description would be berry fruity and spicey too.
For the price I paid $7.99 at Green's in SC this got the be the best Mendoza/Argentina red I have tasted in a long time. I would suggest to have this wine with spicy foods we had at dinner the other night. And yes I would pay $10.to $12. for this wine.
External Reviews for Finca El Portillo Bodegas Salentein Malbec
Medium-weight, with a slightly jammy core of red cherry, plum and rhubarb notes backed by spice and sweet toast on the rounded finish. Drink now.
The Mendoza appellation's ecological conditions have allowed this wine to develop all its characteristics optimally, demonstrating what an Argentine Malbec can yield. The end product is a velvety red endowed with sweet ripe plums, rich cocoa and toasty vanilla nuances.
A winery to watch is Salentein, the maker of this densely colored wine that features inky blackberry aromas along with hints of spice and tobacco. Lush but firm, with moderate tannins that make themselves felt. A streak of toasty oak creates coffee and pepper on the back palate.
