Fields Family Wines is not just a winery, it’s also a collection. Not a collection of wineries, but a collection of family and friends, all working together to make the vineyard what it is today. After years of searching for the perfect land, the Fields family decided on a place along Woodbridge Road, in the heart of the Lodi appellation. With the help of Ryan Sherman, their winemaker, and the constant care of the Fields family, including Russ, Melinda, Van, Zack, and Mia, they collected their first harvest at the end of 2007. There are three main grapes grown at the Fields Family’s vineyards: Organic Syrah, Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon, and Old Vine Zinfandel. The Syrah has been certified organic, and the highly demanded grapes are used in both the Field Family Wines label as well as in other wines throughout California. Read less

Fairly complex if still on the subtle side with light aromas of mineral, a little gingerbread, some dried fruit, and some tobacco and wild herb notes. In the mouth this is smooth, powerful, and transparent, with lovely structural integration and balance. With a palate rich with lovely cut plum, cocoa, and wild berry fruits all supported by juicy acids and ripe tannins that drive the moderately long finish. Very complete, and very Zinfandel. 90pts

This Zin has a light spicy boysenberry bouquet. On the palate, this medium bodied wine is very well balanced and silky with delicious spicy black cherry flavors with minor hints of chocolate that float about. The finish is dry and its persistent tannins sail on. I introduced this wine to a peppercorn crusted Filet and we all fell in love at the table.

This wine offers bright and concentrated blackberry and black cherry aromas, with smoky, spicy notes and an almost Pinot-like texture. There is a bit of Petite Sirah for added color, spice and finesse. There is great depth and complexity due to aging in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels.

Forget Dry Creek, Sonoma and overpriced Zins - this has it all....well balanced, not some sticky sweet fruit bomb. This wine is as nice as I've seen in some time.
