Fiddletown Cellars Bent Bow Amador County Zinfandel 2008
From a collection of Zinfandel vineyards Winemaker Joe Schebl hand selects, the 2008 produced an extremely well refined and balanced wine. Dark red in color, it is classic Zinfandel, going through a range of expression as it takes on air. You'll find sophisticated floral aromas, vanilla extract and blueberry jam. On the palate it first reads as a block of big red fruit, most notably cranberries, bitter cherry and raspberries. Silky smooth tannins dominate this beauty from front to back resulting in a wine of lovely textural grace that is big and elegant yet remarkably easy to drink.

Piercing nose of pure zinfandel brambly fruit. Not a lot of complexity at first but wonderfully intense and immediately recognizable as Zin. Gains nice notes of leather and sweet cinnamon spice with an unusual, slightly yeasty tone. A really big wine in the mouth with bags of acidity but nice, really fresh slightly herb tinged black berry/black cherry fruit. Tannins are nice and soft adding to the full, rich mouthfeel. Intensely fruity finish has a bit of holiday spice floating around and some tannin that grabs on the finale with lingering notes of tar and watermelon now and later candy. Lots of wine here in a very bold style but this does show a fair amount of heat on the finish. 88pts
