Fevre. William-Chablis Bougros Cotes de Bouguerots Cs Fevre William-Chablis Bougros Cotes de Bouguerots White White Burgundy Chablis White Burgundy White 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"This is a big step up in refinement, particularly aromatically with an abundance of oyster shell and tidal pool nuances to the white flower, citrus and Chablis-style green fruit. The rich, powerful and mouth coating flavors possess real drive but also beautiful detail on the intensely mineral-driven finish that possesses outstanding length." - Burghound.com

The history of wine-making in Chablis goes back to 865 AD with the development of vineyards by the monks of Saint-Martin-de-Tours on slopes facing the Serein River that cuts through that village. At that time and for the centuries that followed, the Chablis wine trade grew substantially thanks to the waterways that made it possible to supply Paris from Auxerre. With the French Revolution, estates changed hands but remained successful, and the total vineyard surface area reached 38,000 hectares. The end of the 19th century saw the coming of phylloxera in 1887, which wreaked havoc and reduced the vineyards to almost nothing. It was only at the beginning of the 1960s, when the Chablis vineyard surface area was less than 1,000 hectares, that Chablis wine production took off again with the growth of mechanization and setting up of anti-frost systems (another plague for the vines of the region). The current productive vineyard surface area is 4,580 hectares. Read less

This is chalky and dusty on the nose, with rich lime oil fruit over pollen floral notes and a touch of wood spice. This enters the mouth with focus and and good acid lift, growing on the palate to deliver very rich apple fruit that has a little red fruit aspect to it. There's nice tension in the mouth, though this does come off as a bit round in the mouth, and while it finishes with lots of dusty clay and limestone notes, there’s also hint of whipped cream here that becomes a bit apparent on the palate as well. A bit of oak influence that might bother some. 91 points

We drank this wine while vacationing in California recently. We each enjoy different types of white wines - from wooded chardonnay to fruity pinot grigio, our tastes vary. Yet, this Chablis won over the four of us. It has enough structure without overwhelming those who prefer a lighter wine. A light bittersweet entry to a long and mellowed finish this wine is excellent with lighter seafood and poultry. It's also one to drink on a warm summer's day!

It's arguable that in 2009 that this is the most elegant and refined wine in the range as the ultra pure and airy white flower, citrus zest, iodine and oyster shell aromas complement to perfection the extremely fresh and silkily textured flavors bles... This is really quite pretty and while there is a trace of exoticism to the mostly yellow fruit aromas that are cut by citrus peel and iodine notes, the overall impression is still clearly Chablis in character. The delicious flavors are succulent but ... Burghound. A Chardonnay wine from Burgundy in France. 2009 Fevre, Domaine William Chablis Grenouilles Grand Cru 750ml

The Chablis Village is fresh and lively on the nose with Granny Smith, a touch of pear and morning dew. The palate has good weight, a little fatness in tune with the vintage with a persuasive, apple and pear-tinged finish. Fine. Neal Martins Wine Journal. Pale, bright yellow. Crushed rock and a smoky, silex-like character on the rather austere nose. Then broad and rich in the mouth, with intense citrus and mineral flavors nicely framed by ripe acidity. This really saturates the sides of the mouth. ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. Pale yellow. Reticent aromas of lime and powdered stone. Juicy and spicy but a bit youthfully bitter following the Vaulorent, with notes of stone fruit and menthol and ripe acidity. This could use a bit more dimension and depth. Finishes with a faint... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
