What to Expect

Chablis is a region of France's Burgundy region responsible for some of the most distinctive expressions of the Chardonnay grape. On the limestone rich soils of the area, Chardonnay produces wines that can be steely, yet rich with orchard fruits and mineral tones. Unlike the typical white Burgundy, most Chablis sees little or no new oak which allows the grape to express itself with a purity that barrel aging can obscure. Often quite reticent in their youth, Chablis may require several years of ageing in order to be able to fully express the depth and richness it keeps in reserve.

"Here the wood is already almost invisible with riper aromas of admirable freshness and vivacity that complement perfectly the rich, full and noticeably sweet flavors that are dense, intense, sappy, even opulent and finish with real verve. Despite the power, this remains a wine of elegance and grace...91-93." Burghound 10/06

"In contrast to the relative expressiveness of most of this group, the Les Clos is backward, reserved and very tight, revealing only glimpses of white flower, oyster shell and an airy marine influence that can also be found on the intense, pure and astonishingly precise flavors that possess another dimension relative to all of the other '05s. Class in a glass as they say and while presently tighter than a drum, this has the material and balance to age for years...93-96." Burghound 10/06
