In the glass, the ‘Taurasi’ had a bright ruby red color with garnet red reflections. The bouquet consisted of vanilla, caramel, sour cherry, nutmeg and anise. This is not your typical Southern Italian bouquet but these aromas are often found in Aglianico wines like Taurasi DOCG and Aglianico del Vulture DOCG. I wished the wine would have had a few more fruit aromas. After taking a sip, I noticed pleasingly, mellow tannins. The wine was medium-bodied and well-balanced. ‘Taurasi’ had a nice minerality but the finish was not that long. / Deep ruby red with aromas of cherry, clove and chocolate. Medium-full with good concentration. Polished tannins in the finish. Not as big as some vintages, this is quite elegant. Enjoy for the next 5-7 years.

Taurasi 2004 - 4 Stars, Guide to Italian Wines/ Deep ruby red with aromas of bitter chocolate, black cherry, vanilla and tar. Medium-full with deeply extracted fruit, lively acidity, good use of oak and young, ample tannins.

/ The 2005 Taurasi is a pretty wine laced with perfumed red fruits, flowers and sweet French oak. This is a fairly soft, domesitcated Taurasi that offers excellent balance but little of the nuances that make Aglianico one of Italy's most intriguing varieties.

100 Best Wines of 2006/ With fresh fruit flavors as lush as cherries wrapped in chocolate, it's hard to believe this is eight years old. That sun-filled fruit is dense with spice, nuts and a volcanic minerality, flavors that seem directly connected to the southern vineyards in which it grew. Delicious now, it has the structure to carry it for another decade or longer.

Taurasi 2004/ This dense Taurasi offers a beautiful presentation of mineral, spice, toast and berry tones. It's a modern, well-extracted wine with subtle nuances of vanilla, white truffle and rhubarb. You'll get muscle and power and a long, dusty finish: Drink after 2010.

The Chronicle Wine Selections: Aglianico/ Amazingly approachable and enjoyable. The rich, volcanic soil of Campania produced a wine with bittersweet mocha java, tar, vanilla and strong oak lashings on the nose. Black pepper, tart sour cherry and cocoa powder flavors.
