What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

Wine Tasting NotesValley Oaks Chardonnay is characteristically golden straw in color, with aromas of tropical fruit layered with lemon grass, lime, a touch of peach and some herbal notes of clove. The wine is crafted to be medium weight, with vanilla, baked apple and pear alongside flavors of citrus and grapefruit. You won't be disappointed in this vintage: it's like saying hello to an old friend.

For a little over $5 its hard to go wrong with this. Its better than average. Certainly kicks Yellow Tail in the pants. Nice clean fruit, not much oak to speak of. The way I like my Chardonnays. This isn't gonna win any awards for complexity, but for a good afternoon sipper its great.

I found this wine to be thin and supremely out of balance. An overpowering aroma of harsh lemon juice leads to a knockout punch of acidity on the front end that immediately dissappears. On careful tasting one might detect sweeter flavors of peach, but one cannot say there is any nuance to this wine because a nuance requires a defining flavor profile which it can either support or distinguish itself from. I found neither. The sale price was too much.
