Fetzer Quartz Winemakers Favorite White Blend 2011
"We gave winemaker extraordinaire Dennis Martin a clean palette to create a new wine. From there he went about crafting something remarkably Californian - wine that was smooth, socialable, well-blended and slightly non-traditional. Fetzer Quartz reveals the full body of Chardonnay expertly mixed with the floral and spicy notes of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Pinot Grigio. He could enthuse about all the foods perfectly complemented by Fetzer Quartz, but Dennis thinks you should let it stand on its own first. This is a wine to be enjoyed with people." Winemaker's notes "A blend of Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer, and Pinot Grigo. White gold with a yellow tint. Deliciously extroverted with a sweet floral, nearly blousy bouquet that calls to mind white flowers, ripe peaches, Anjou pears, and guava. On the palate, the wine is a veritable fruit salad of flavors, with notes of pineapple, peach, guava, pear, and cherries kissed with hints of honey and lemon. A pretty peach and marzipan note speaks clearly on the finish. Should pair beautifully with most chicken dishes, shrimp, and antipasta..." SWJ 11/12
Fetzer Vineyards was founded in 1968 in beautiful Mendocino County by Barney and Kathleen Fetzer. One of the first California wineries to branch out into serious Chardonnay production, Fetzer remains committed to sustainability and environmentally conscious wine production. Dennis Martin oversees all wine-making at Fetzer and is assisted by Charlie Gilmore and Michael Chupp, who are in charge of white wine making and red wine making respectively.
I'm not a wine snob, and know little to nothing about wine. I found this last year and love it!
