How Fetzer can produce 300,000 cases of this wine, at this price, is a testament to the fine art of blending. This is a smooth, polished, dry Merlot with cherry, vanilla and spice flavors. It's easy to drink and is a nice everyday or party type wine.
Appealing for its black cherry and roasted coffee aromas and spicy, easygoing flavors. Drink now.
Impresses for its dryness and elegance. Feels smooth and polished in the mouth, with complicated flavors of currants, herbs, anise, pepper and sandalwood, wrapped into firm but fine tannins. Easy to find, with 312,000 cases produced.
Fetzer as much as anyone in America is responsible for quaffable, inexpensive vin ordinaire, and this fine Merlot is the latest example. It's dry and balanced, with a polished richness that belies the everyday price.
Lively and easy to drink, with cherry and spice aromas and soft raspberry and toasty herb flavors. Drink now.
Blended with Carignane and Syrah, allegedly in order to enhance the mouthfeel, acid, and body of the wine, the 2002 Fetzer Merlot (sporting an attractive new label, might I add) is dark purple in color with flavors of ripe plum, blackberry jam and spicy clove.
Ripe cherry and blackberry jam meld with creamy vanilla aromas, a touch of tobacco, spicy clove and cinnamon, and toasted oak. The wine is rich in the mouth, with full tannin and dark-ripe fruity cherry flavors. The finish is long and fruit-filled, with the perfect amount of toasty oak spice.
There’s a sense of pride that comes from making wine in a place with a rich history. I think our Mendocino roots show in every glass of our Merlot. It has an easy, approachable style with aromas of ripe plums and flavors of blackberry and cherry. This wine goes great with just about any meal, making it a good choice to have on hand for every day.
