When Fess Parker was cast in the roll of Davy Crockett in the mid-1950’s, it caused an international sensation and changed his life forever. So too did the purchase of 714 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley change the course of the Parker family’s history. Realizing the potential of Santa Barbara County as a premium grape-growing region, Fess and his son, Eli, originally set out in 1989 to plant a small vineyard and sell fruit to local producers. Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the November 2010 issue. Powerful and very expressive aromas of black pepper, game, rich oak and ripe berries leave no doubt whatsoever as to this bottling's varietal make-up, but, as much as we like the wine's heady and very rich start, we are less taken with its gradual slide to latter-palate stiffness. Its edges and angles are a distraction just now and demand cellar time before this one finds greater beauty with age.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

This Syrah produces an abundance of bold aromas including smoke, blueberry and blackberry combined with espresso, black licorice and baking spices. Deep, full flavors of black cherry, boysenberries and black pepper mingle with Herbs de Provence, tar and dark chocolate.
