When Fess Parker was cast in the roll of Davy Crockett in the mid-1950’s, it caused an international sensation and changed his life forever. So too did the purchase of 714 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley change the course of the Parker family’s history. Realizing the potential of Santa Barbara County as a premium grape-growing region, Fess and his son, Eli, originally set out in 1989 to plant a small vineyard and sell fruit to local producers. But, as Fess’ daughter, Ashley explains, “ Fess is from Texas, so he can’t do anything small. “The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard now farms almost 700 acres on four vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County. WOW is all I can say; at a devout chardonnay lover I was not expecting too much from this 2006 Melange Blanc; it has a sparkle and softness all at the same time which I found unusual; the tast actually bubbles on your tongue; I'm hooked.

Run, don't walk to buy up cases of this beautiful, well-priced Chardonnay. It's rich and sumptuous in vanilla oak and lees-inspired flavors of pineapples, pears and lime tart. Easy to find, with production of 17,496 cases.

Aromas of citrus, lemon cream and honey combine with toasty oak, nutmeg, yellow apple and orange blossom to create this refreshing Chardonnay. On the palate, flavors of citrus, green apple, honey, light cream, cantelope and vanilla couple with great textu

This wineandrsquo;s orange and green melon flavors handle oak with subtlety. The wood adds warm, honeyed accents to the earthy, creamy finish. For a lemon roast chicken.

Ripe, with tropical, apricot, tangerine and lemon peel flavors that have good focus through the finish. Drink now.

Readers looking for a crisp, elegant, medium-bodied Chardonnay should check out the 2004 Chardonnay Santa Barbara. Tropical fruit and peach characteristics emerge from this tasty, soft, well-balanced cuvee. It is meant to be consumed over the next several years.

It should be no surprise that this estate's quality continures to go from strength to strength. The two Chardonnays I tasted included the tropical fruit-scented and flavored 2001 Chardonnay Santa Barbara. With good definition, ripeness, and fruit, it is not complicated, but is a pretty, consumer-friendly Chardonnay to enjoy over the next year.
