Fess Parker Chardonnay Santa Barbara County 2016

Member Review by vin0vin0:

A very nice Santa Barbara chardonnay. Was expecting something heavier, oakier, buttery but instead was pleasantly surprised with a clean, crisp wine that is well balanced with nice acidity and a bit of green apple, lemon chiffon and a touch of creaminess.

When Fess Parker was cast in the roll of Davy Crockett in the mid-1950’s, it caused an international sensation and changed his life forever. So too did the purchase of 714 acres in the Santa Ynez Valley change the course of the Parker family’s history. Realizing the potential of Santa Barbara County as a premium grape-growing region, Fess and his son, Eli, originally set out in 1989 to plant a small vineyard and sell fruit to local producers. But, as Fess’ daughter, Ashley explains, “ Fess is from Texas, so he can’t do anything small. “The Fess Parker Winery and Vineyard now farms almost 700 acres on four vineyards throughout Santa Barbara County. Starting with the whites, Blair’s outstanding 2013 Chardonnay Santa Barbara County has beautiful crisp pineapple, white peach and citrus-styled aromas and flavors to go with a medium-bodied, racy, and lively style on the palate. Coming mostly from Rodney’s Vineyard, yet also from Los Alamos, Sierra Madre, Camp 4 and Rancho Esperanza, this beauty was 100% barrel-fermented and aged 30% in new French and Hungarian oak. Enjoy it over the coming couple of years.

This early-release Chardonnay from the 2013 vintage is lighter in color, likely from less barrel age, and is a lean take on the grape, with pear, lime and limestone aromas. The youth shows nicely on the palate, with sea spray and fresh limeade flavors, making for a brisk, refreshing sipper.

Aromas of citrus, lemon cream and honey combine with toasty oak, nutmeg, yellow apple and orange blossom to create this refreshing Chardonnay. On the palate, flavors of citrus, green apple, honey, light cream, cantelope and vanilla couple with great textu

A fantastic Santa Barbara Chardonnay, with a wonderful amount of tropical fruit, little evidence of wood, crisp acids, and a nice, medium-bodied, this style is ideal for drinking over several years.
