Somewhat dissapointed by this given its heritage, big on the nose but lighter than expected on the palette. Got better through the evening, but felt it never quite reached its potential. Found it somewhat bland compared to my expectations.

...It offers a complex, evolved bouquet of cedar, underbrush, red currants, and spice box. A delicate and refined red. Fresh aromas of raspberries and minerals follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a delicate, refreshing finish. Best after 2003. Wine Spectator. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 1999 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 750ml

Winemaker's Notes:

Tasting Notes :Medium red. Aromatic nose of redcurrant, plum, tobacco, tar, toast and incense, with a faint weedy component. Silky on entry, then round in the mouth, but with limited sweetness and expansion of flavor. Not especially pliant today despite the relatively high 47% merlot component. Finishes with slightly dry-edged tannins. Not at the same level as the subsequent vintages at Pichon-Lalande.
