Ferraton Pere & Fils Côtes du Rhône Samorens 2007
Son of a wine producer and a wine producer himself, Jean Ferraton founded his own vineyard in 1946 in the Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage appellations together with his father-inlaw, Jean Reverdy. He passed on his passion to his son, Michel who developed the estate by extending the vineyards and adding the current premises in Tain L’Hermitage. In 1994 his own son, Samuel Ferraton took over and has continued the family’s art of wine-making, preserving the knowledge and learning that have been handed down to him. As a result all of the estate’s vines were converted to biodynamic viticulture and the wines became organically certificated. This was combined with the continuation of hand-picking and traditional vinification techniques. The philosophy and style of the wines continue to be dictated by Samuel Ferraton. Côtes du Rhône Samorëns 2007 is a blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Cinsault. It has a garnet core with ruby highlights, aromas and flavours of very ripe red fruits, ripe berries and spices this red in wonderfully structured with firm and meaty tannins. Try this wine with baked artichoke, honey-glazed parsnips and roast pork.
Ferraton Père et Fils is a winery/negociant in the north of the Côtes du Rhône. Their wines are smooth, well balanced and very affordable considering the quality. Notably their Crozes-Hermitage "La Matinière" red and white and the St-Joseph "La Source", also red and white. For wines to lay down, look more towards the Hermitages and the single vinyard selection.
Great with some artisan cheddar and salami. A nice Friday night wine!
Fresh fruits, white peppers and a lot of freshness. Looking for a clean and pure Syrah, this is definitely the type of Syrah I love. You can really taste the terroir and the fruit, this is not oaky. It's all about fruit and freshness. So clean and mineral, a MUST !!
