Flavors of rich, ripe blackberry jam, mocha and toast are wrapped into firm but refined tannins in this Cabernet. The most basic of the winery's Cabs, and the first of the vintage to be released, it's drinking well now and bodes well for the coming 2011 reserves and blends. - S.H. Our Ferrari-Carano Cabernet Sauvignon comes from mountain-grown fruit in Alexander Valley. Cedar, graphite, fresh blackberry and spice aromas delight with a soft mouth feel that boasts flavors of mocha, black tea, wild berry and clove. Velvety tannins and sweet notes of caramel and chocolate abound in the finish. - WineryBLEND:80% Cabernet Sauvignon11% Syrah9% Petit VerdotCOOPERAGE: 45% new French and Hungarian oak, 55% older oak

Our vineyard practices are customized to match the particular characteris-tics of each vineyard, to help the vines produce the best fruit possible, and in turn, the best wine possible. The bottom line is quality without compromise. This is a commitment we feel is reflected in every bottle of our wine.

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Deep and rich in their well-focused curranty fruit, and if not entirely outgoing, the aromas provide an accurate preview of the wine's attractive, slightly refined and still developing flavors. Supple at entry and a bit round at the edges and thus inviting early enjoyment, this bottling runs comfortably across the palate and finishes well.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

Winemaker's Notes:

The fruit for our 2004 Ferrari-Carano Cabernet Sauvignon comes primarily from mountain-grown fruit in Alexander Valley. Fog drifts over the tops of the coastal mountains and burns off quickly in the morning sunshine, resulting in a warm climate with almost full sun throughout the day – ideal conditions for our cabernet sauvignon mountain vineyards. A powerful wine with great finesse, this wine is a deep, glowing garnet color with a concentrated nose of dark chocolate, black tea and ripe, juicy blackberry and boysenberry fruit accompanied by toffee, caramel, and licorice flavors on the palate. With a delicious, concentrated fruit entry, ripe, showy tannins and a long finish, this wine will continue to improve with age.
