Editorial Reviews for Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery Cabernet Sauvignon
Immediately rather complex with wood spice tones augmented by a lovely gentle herbal element that helps to frame the core of black and red currant fruit. There’s a fine little earthy streak, as well with a soft root cellar note. This is opulent on entry, rich and seamless with masses of dark, currant fruit backed up by notes of black olive, toast and very gentle vegetal notes. A big wine but well-crafted, in the modern style no doubt; and perhaps a bit too soft, but full of rich, dark fruit that powers across the long finish. I would like to see a bit more brightness here but there is no denying the depth and complexity. Finishes with carob and dried fruit notes along with the toasty wood spice. 91pts

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Deep and rich in their well-focused curranty fruit, and if not entirely outgoing, the aromas provide an accurate preview of the wine's attractive, slightly refined and still developing flavors. Supple at entry and a bit round at the edges and thus inviting early enjoyment, this bottling runs comfortably across the palate and finishes well.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
Tightly wound, firm and concentrated, with dense currant, floral and wild berry flavors that are well-proportioned. Finishes with a burst of fruit, but also chewy tannins. Decant. Drink now through 2012.
Offers richness, depth, complexity and a supple texture, with earthy currant, herb, cola and cherry-berry jam flavors. Ends with earthy tannins. Drink now through 2012.
Excellent balance for the vintage, with ripe cherry, currant, anise and dusty berry flavors that offer a measure of delicacy, suppleness and finesse. The tannins sneak up on the finish, providing a firm mouthfeel. Drink now through 2010.
Mixing loamy earth with fennel, mineral, dusty sage and dried currant, this takes time to unwrap from the tannins, but the flavors get more interesting on the finish. Best from 2011 through 2017.
Well-focused, with tight, rich cassis, black cherry and blackberry falvors that are firm and concentrated, with a pretty dash of oak, and finishing with dense, ripe tannins. Drink now through 2009.
Winemaker's Notes:
Our Home Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is truly a wine with a story. A first-time-ever, vineyard-designate bottling, this wine comes from the first vineyard Don and Rhonda purchased over 30 years ago, when they first discovered Sonoma County wine country. Located in Alexander Valley and affectionately called the Home Ranch, this two-tiered, steep, west-facing vineyard sits atop the elevated valley floor and enjoys full sunshine. The hand-harvested grapes enter the gravity-flow winery and are hand sorted, then whole berries are gravity fed into French oak fermentors, cold soaked, and then fermented for 28 days on skins. After gently, small batch pressing, wine is gravity fed to French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation, then blended and barrel aged for 20 months and aged an additional nine months in bottle, allowing for the perfect balance of fruit, tannin and oak.
Tasting Notes:
An elegant wine with rich aromas and flavors of black currant, blackberry pie and cherry cola, a full mid-palate, broad and round tannins, with a spicy, racy finish.
