Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay Russian River Valley Tre Terre 2016

Member Review by VegasOenophile:

This is a little more citrus fruit heavy than I was expecting. nice, refreshing and balanced, yes. I just personally prefer the toasty, buttery, oaky chardonnay, so this left me wanting a little more. Perhaps with food it would open up more, paired properly.

Ferrari-Carano vineyard practices are customized to match the particular characteristics of each vineyard to help the vines produce the best fruit possible, and to in turn, achieve the best wine possible. Directed by Don Carano and orchestrated under the supervision of Steve Domenichelli, Director of Vineyard Operations, these practices are extremely labor intensive. Steve and his team implement irrigation and nutrient regimes, trellis system and canopy management, rootstock and clone combinations, and pruning and cane selection for each vineyard site and each block within a vineyard. Because of Sonoma County's diverse geological makeup, even within one vineyard parcel there may be several different types of soil with different degrees of nutrients for vines and water-holding capacity. In addition, Steve and his team practice sustainable farming techniques, such as recycling organic matter for use as mulch in the vineyards, planting cover crops and other plant species to avoid soil erosion, add desirable nutrients back to the soil and to attract desirable insects, and integrating animals to naturally enhance biodiversity and nutrient recycling. Absolutely agree with Drunk Duck, I really tasted the coconut and oak. Was spectacular after it sat out for ten minutes, brought out a lot of the vanilla and almond scent.

Ferrari Carano macht seit jahrzehnten top-Qualität. Daran hat sich nichts geändert! Buttriger, charaktervoller Chardonnay. Leichter Barrique-Geschmack, süffig.

AROMAS & FLAVORS: This is a delicious, full‐bodied Chardonnay with aromas and flavors of Meyer lemon, citrus, apple, graham cracker, creamy marshmallow, peach, apricot, pear, brown sugar and spice. Trè Terre is a wine with bright fruit, nice acidity and a long, lingering finish. HOW IT’S MADE: Each lot for this wine is hand harvested, whole‐cluster pressed, then barrel fermented with native and cultured yeast. The wine completes 96% malolactic fermentation and is sur lie aged and stirred weekly for nine months. The final blend was assembled in May 2017, and the wine is barreled again in neutral oak until bottling, for a total of almost 17 months of barrel aging. All vineyard lots are treated separately until blending. THE VINTAG E: Overall, 2016 was a good year. Spring produced great set, and despite a third year of drought conditions in our area, vines produced ideal yields. Warmer temperatures during the supper months allowed the fruit to achieve mature, ripe flavors. FOOD PAIRINGS: This wine’s rich fruit component complements mildly‐spiced vegetarian dishes and rich, creamy shellfish entrées. It also works well with veal, poultry, pasta and rice. COOPERAGE: 20% new French oak, 80% older French oak Alcohol: 14.1% pH: 3.39 TA: .62
