Ferrari-Carano Chardonnay Dominique 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wines, Jul 05 Nicely concentrated and well-defined appley fruit is framed with a fine measure of oak in the full-volume aromas of this easy-to-access youngster, and, once in the mouth, it follows accordingly with lively, medium-deep flavors that are long on fresh apples and deftly fit oak. If thoroughly enjoyable now for its youthful immediacy, it has the depth and balance to insure a year or two of positive growth.

Ferrari-Carano vineyard practices are customized to match the particular characteristics of each vineyard to help the vines produce the best fruit possible, and to in turn, achieve the best wine possible. Directed by Don Carano and orchestrated under the supervision of Steve Domenichelli, Director of Vineyard Operations, these practices are extremely labor intensive. Steve and his team implement irrigation and nutrient regimes, trellis system and canopy management, rootstock and clone combinations, and pruning and cane selection for each vineyard site and each block within a vineyard. Because of Sonoma County's diverse geological makeup, even within one vineyard parcel there may be several different types of soil with different degrees of nutrients for vines and water-holding capacity. In addition, Steve and his team practice sustainable farming techniques, such as recycling organic matter for use as mulch in the vineyards, planting cover crops and other plant species to avoid soil erosion, add desirable nutrients back to the soil and to attract desirable insects, and integrating animals to naturally enhance biodiversity and nutrient recycling. For full bodied fruit oaky Chardonnay fans this is always on their favorite list! The wine maker’s and others notes capture the wine’s quality, although I don’t pick up nearly the apple seemingly suggested by the wine maker. As with most better quality Chards not over chilling is important and this wine’s full character presents at cool, but not overly so temperature.

Wine Tasting NotesIn keeping with our classic style of Chardonnay, we have blended fruit from eight of our most prized vineyards in Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley and Napa/Carneros. This Chardonnay is a fruit-focused offering with tropical overtones of papaya and mango supplemented by toasty almond flavors. It is a wonderfully complex wine with impressive balance and length.

This delicious Chardonnay is complex and full bodied. Barrel fermented and aged in French oak to add lush richness. Lovely tropical aromas accompanied by layers of pineapple and mango flavors, balanced with soft toasty oak. Subtle lemon citrus qualities.

The 2006 Alexander Valley Chardonnay is a delicious wine with floral and fruit aromas of pear, Fuji apple, citrus and honey graham cracker with a hint of rich caramel and toasted coconut marshmallow. Generous on the palate, creamy vanilla undertones balance layers of toast and spice on the finish, while the tropical flavors linger to the end. - Winery ** Only 4 in Stock **
