Quite yeasty on the nose with some lovely, pithy citrus fruit notes that recall lime oil. Very fine mousse in the mouth with a touch of sweetness early on then more acid driven flavors of tart apples doused with lemon juice over a nice base of evolved, leery character. Finishes stingily with a return of a sweet edge and nice lifted inner mouth notes of flowers and brioche over a base of orchard fruits. Easy to enjoy and fairly complex and elegant at this price. 89pts

/ Giulio Ferrari's NV Brut is a gorgeous effort, especially considering its budget-friendly price. Medium in body, it reveals flowers, sweet peaches and smoke, with excellent persistence on the palate and terrific poise. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2010. It is amazing to consider that this venerable house based in Trento has produced wines for over a century. Giulio Ferrari was an innovator in bringing Chardonnay and French production methods to Trento.
Bubbles...Bubbles...Bubbles/ From Italy came the Ferrari Brut, non-vintage, 100% Chardonnay sparkling wine. This is an interesting creamy, straw yellow sparkler from Trentino, with a lively and persistent mousse and aromatic notes of baked apple, gingerbread, and yeast that linger on this finish.
/ The latest set of releases by Ferrari confirms what the Lunellis have been claiming for years; the Perle bottlings (a term indicating softer sparklers, much like France's cremants, bottled at lower atmospheric pressure) really are fine. These wines can rival better Champagnes, but keep in mind that they offer less yeasty nuttiness and more ripe fruit character. Pale straw with a fine mousse. Floral, apricot and white pepper aromas, accented by grapefruit. Nicely balanced, very fresh wine with sneaky concentration to its white pear, green apple and apricot flavors. Finishes fairly creamy and long.
Brut NV/ The NV Brut offers up notes of white peaches, flowers, smoke and minerals in a taut, focused style. This medium-bodied sparkler from Trentino is best enjoyed over the next few years.

/ In this world of ever-soaring Champagne prices, enthusiasts of the bubbly no doubt are looking for credible alternatives. Italy would be my first choice for quality and value on the non-vintage brut front, and Ferrari is certainly among the leading producersof metodo classicosparkling wines, which are made after the Champagne fashion, witha second fermentation in the bottle. The current release of Ferrari Brut is a lovely, well-balanced sparkler that offers a gentle mousse, hints of ripe apple and white flower, and a touch of brioche for added complexity. This cuvee is aged two years on the yeast before disgorgement, giving it enough gravitas to handle main courses but with enough finesse and delicacy to serve as an aperitif, too. Excellent value!
