Ferrari Brut 2012

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Quite yeasty on the nose with some lovely, pithy citrus fruit notes that recall lime oil. Very fine mousse in the mouth with a touch of sweetness early on then more acid driven flavors of tart apples doused with lemon juice over a nice base of evolved, leery character. Finishes stingily with a return of a sweet edge and nice lifted inner mouth notes of flowers and brioche over a base of orchard fruits. Easy to enjoy and fairly complex and elegant at this price. 89pts

A racy Italian sparkler made with second fermentation in the bottle. I'm not a big prosecco fan, but this isn't prosecco (though it's also from northern Italy). It's serious bubbles at a decent price!

Perle 2006 - 91 points, Wine Enthusiast/ This is rich, creamy and zesty at the same time, redolent of citrus, peach, pear and Golden Delicious apple, followed by opulent tones of toasted nut and freshly baked bread…

Perle Rose 2003 - 90 Points, Wine Advocate/ 2003 PerleRose is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. The wine possesses gorgeous inner sweetness in its perfumed, floral fruit, with excellent balance and a long resonating finish. This is a terrific effort.

Perle 2002 - 91 Points, Wine Enthusiast/ Creamy and yeasty, this luminous Chardonnay-based sparkler delivers aroma of mature peach and apricot backed by almond nut and butter. The wine has the heft and staying power to pair with shellfish or lobster.

Perle 2002/ Ferrari, arguably Italy’s leading producer of sparkling wine, labels their vintage dated sparkling wines, Perle.  Although the 2002 vintage has a poor reputation in northern Italy because heavy rains spoiled much of the crop, the Chardonnay was picked before the deluge, which explains, in part, why this wine is so stunning.  It has gorgeous creamy elements and mature toasty--slightly nutty notes-- supported by lively freshness.  Long and elegant, new flavors emerge with each sip.  It’s impeccably balanced and can be savored as an aperitif and then brought to the table for a first course.  Appropriately named, this is a lustrous pearl of a wine.

Perle 2004 - 91 Points, Wine Enthusiast / Ferrari's Brut Perle (made with 100% Chardonnay) offers soft, foamy perlage that enhances a sense of softness and fullness on the palate. Crisp and tonic, it drinks very well but it leaves enough body and persistency to fuel a long finish.

Perle 2004 - 93 points, WineReviewOnline.com/ As good as Ferrari’s non-vintage Brut is, this one is better and worth the premium. Yeasty and toasty, its lushness is immediately apparent. In contrast to many wines whose initial impact fades, La Perlé’s glory persists with a seductiveness that’s impossible to ignore. It has just the right combination of freshness and maturity. Similar to its non-vintage counterpart, Ferrari’s La Perlé delivers far more than the price indicates.

/ Ferrari's 2003 Perle is a selection of the estate's finest Chardonnay. Rich and expansive in its varietal aromas and flavors of sweet peaches, apricots and spices, the wine offers notable depth and style. This ripe wine is best enjoyed over the next few years.
