Fernando Pighin & Figli Pinot Grigio 2009
Pighin Pinot Grigio del Collio is a wine which marries pronounced varietal intensity with exceptional purity of fruit. The aromatic, slightly spicy fragrance is marked by distinctive notes of acacia and hazelnuts, confirmed on the palate with elegant white fruit flavors, ending in a clean, fresh, delicate finish.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
My first exploration into Northeastern Italian whites. I'm very familiar with Swiss whites, and LOVE Alsatian Pinot Gris. I found this odd. The crisp white fruits and citrus were there, but it quickly flattened on the tongue to a cedar/sandalwood note and stayed there. Not very pleasant with a simple meal based on prosciutto, boiled potatoes and hollandaise. Eager to try other makes in the region.
