Fenestra Winery's Alvarelhao 2005
This is a classic Portuguese varietal. It has spicy plum/raspberry bouquet and fruit forward flavor, with good body and a lingering finish. Pair this intriguing, very approachable wine with smoked turkey, roast chicken with fennel, chicken Veronique, turkey with a cranberry glaze, ham and rustic food.
We produce a wide range of wines, 7 or 8 white wines and about 12 red wines including some less well-known Portugese varieties such as Verdelho, Alvarelhao and Touriga. We also have a Wine Club called the "Fenestra Fanatics."
Won 2 SILVER Medals: 2008 Orange County Fair Wine Competition AND 2008 California State Fair Wine Competition!
I tasted this wine at the winery and found it outstanding. I had never tried this varietal before, but found this example just a wonderful, bright fruit-forward complex explosion of flavors. I wish I could afford more than the one bottle I purchased. When tasted at home, it did not disappoint. It is one of the top $20 bottles I have ever enjoyed. I recommend others try this wine if the price is in your sweet spot.
