What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

Colour of pale straw. A nose of stonefruits, with lemon and a distinctmineral edge. The palate leads with nutty stonefruit, following with crisp acidand cleansing minerality. Very rich and mouth-coating, yet with a bracing cleanfinish and plenty of grip. The tension is evident despite the riper flavoursthan we normally see in this wine; certainly no sign of New World fatness. Awine with considerable ageing potential.

Editorial Reviews

Light toast and nicely interwoven wood spice greets the nose and though this is served cool it is remarkably aromatic with green apples and plums,a touch of vegetal herbs and an underlay of silica and clay. In the mouth this is really zippy with fine balance and a sweet/sour tension that highlights the green apple and citrus character of the wine. Excellent length and simply delicious. 93pts

Reviews

New Zealand's Felton Road winery is located in Bannockburn, Central Otago, the most southerly wine growing region in the world. Their Chardonnay is toasty and dry; on the palate it's full of apples, citrus, and hazelnut fruits.

This is beautifully light and clean. Pours a pale straw with a green tinge and the taste is predominantly apples, pears and nuts. Its extremely crisp and fresh with little acidity and very moreish. Maybe more famous for their Pinots but the Chardonnay is very good.
