Felton Road Block 5 Pinot Noir Central Otago Bottle 2008
Felton Road is located in Bannockburn, Central Otago in New Zealand - the world's most southerly wine growing region. The wines - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling - are produced from the estate's 80 acres of vineyards, divided between three sites - Elms Vineyard, Cornish Point Vineyard and Calvert Vineyard. All three vineyards are farmed biodynamically. Winemaker Blair Walter's experience in Oregon and Burgundy has stood him in good stead, teaching him to coax the best out of the property's vines. His wines show polish, sophistication, complexity and exceptional depth of fruit.
Open Monday-Friday 2pm-5pm or by appointment
Editorial Reviews for Felton Road Block 5 Pinot Noir Central Otago Bottle
Lightly smoky and earthy on the nose with watermelon and spicy cherry fruit that has a light candied cranberry tone. Fairly lightly bodied though juicy and transparent in the mouth with spicy mineral tones giving the wine an almost salty tinge that adds to the subtle stemmy and floral complexity of the wine. 92pts
This smells rich and dense and sacrifices some of the transparency of the other Felton Road Pinots for that extra bit of richness. There are hints of cola and juniper on the nose with a touch of licorice accenting the plummy, dark berry fruits. The texture is soft and voluptuous with a nice spicy accent on the backend leading to rich finish with good sweet/sour tension and an earthy finale. 91pts
Nose of flowers (white honeysuckle), mild sweetened fruit and cool, uplifting air. Darker red-purple color (ruby). On the attack and in the mouth tastes of ripe red raspberry/strawberry and mildly of wet stone wall; well-balanced. Light to medium body. Finish lingers a good 5 seconds with nuts and a slight citrus kick. Quite a pinot.
Cherry fruit nose and at first on palate. A bit smoky then pure raspberry kicks in like a glass of squeezed raspberry fruit. Offset by the smoky earthiness for balance and finesse.Highly silky mouthfeel.
It was a while ago now but I have some great memories of the evening I discovered Felton Road PN in a restaurant in Sydney. I was really impressed

A Pinot Noir wine from Central Otago in New Zealand. 2008 Felton Road Pinot Noir Block 3 750ml
A nose of plum, dark cherry and herbs with oriental spice. Ripeness drives the palate, no jamminess but a rich, dark compote of black fruit laced with raspberry and chocolate.
Medium-deep ruby purple colour. A little mute, pure cherry fruit, raspberry, black pepper and a touch of cinnamon. Plate shows very good balance, medium to high acid, medium level of very silky tannins, medium to full body. Long finish. Tasting at Ch... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Pinot Noir wine from Otago in New Zealand. 2008 Felton Road Pinot Noir 750ml
Light on its feet, this is harmonious and beautifully focused to show its bright açaí berry and blackberry flavors in a spotlight. The finish sails on, letting the fruit linger. Drink now through 2015. 2,841 cases made. -HS Wine Spectator. A Pinot Noir wine from Otago in New Zealand. 2008 Felton Road Pinot Noir 750ml
